The Sharjah Police on Sunday announced the temporary closure of the road leading to Al Suhub Rest Area in Khorfakkan following falling rocks blocked the street path. The rock fall was caused by strong rains in the area.
In a series of tweets, the police confirmed that all visitors to the rest house were safe and there was nothing to worry about.
After taking necessary precautions, they organised the entry and exit of equipment and machinery from Roads and Transport Authority in Sharjah and the Sharjah Civil Defence Authority.
Brigadier General Dr. Ahmed Saeed Al-Naour, Director General of Central Operations at the Sharjah Police General Command, said: “As soon as a report was received to the Central Operations Room, stating that rocks had fallen on the street leading to Al Suhub rest area, the police formed a team to deal with the situation by drawing up the right strategies and minimising the impact.”
He pointed out that the security and police teams immediately entered to check on the safety of the visitors to the rest house. They reassured them that all the security authorities would open a temporary route to facilitate the exit process safely.
Al Naour said that all concerned teams have a high degree of readiness in dealing with such issues.
He said the mission achieved in cooperation the Roads and Transport Authority, the Sharjah Civil Defence Authority, the Department of Planning, Survey and National Ambulance, the Municipality of Khorfakkan, and the public.
Known as Cloud Lounge, the popular destination was closed last year in July for one week because of unstable weather conditions.
The mountain-side rest stop, which towers 600 metres above sea level was opened for public in 2021. A 5.63-kilometre road winds up to the rest house and offers a panoramic view of the coastal city of Khorfakkan.
