Abu Dhabi - All forms of public transportation, including the Dubai metro, tram and buses will be suspended.
The programme, which will see the sterilisation of all public places, government departments and the streets across the country, will be implemented starting today (Thursday) March 26 at 8pm until Sunday, March 29 at 6am.
Brigadier Abdul Aziz Abdullah Ahmed from the Ministry of Interior said in a virtual press briefing that the national sterilisation programme will be a full-day programme and asked for cooperation from all citizens and residents.
"We will restrict the movement of traffic including public transport, and private vehicles during these days. Everyone should stay at home during this period from Thursday evening until Sunday morning except for employees in active sectors," said Ahmed.
"All supermarkets and pharmacies will remain open during these days to provide the general public with essential food and medical supplies."
Dr. Faridah Al Hosani, the official spokesperson for the UAE health sector said the programme is part of the government's precautionary measures to combat the spread of coronavirus in the country.
"The sterilization will take place over the weekend and we urge everyone to avoid gathering since some families tend to come together. Avoid gathering at lunches and in Majlis in homes," she said.
