The UAE will continue to invest heavily in infrastructure and diversify its economy, Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Saleh, Undersecretary of the UAE Ministry of Economy, said at the Diplomat Business Club seminar in Dubai last week.
The high-profile seminar, which brought together diplomats from over 40 countries, noted business leaders based in UAE as well as government officials representing the UAE Ministry of Economy, Dubai Economic Department, Sharjah Investment Authority and Fujairah Freezone Authority. The Diplomat Business Club is the region's most exclusive social and business networking initiative that connects diplomats, business leaders and the elite of the UAE society.
"The UAE was known on the global level as a country that depends on oil exports. Nevertheless, our commitment to economic diversification over the years has enabled us to diversify our economy," Al Saleh said.
He also noted that economic diversification has been a top priority for the government of the UAE for a number of years. He explained that one of the ways that the government has been focused on diversifying the economy has been through the support that it extends to the large number of small and medium sized enterprises in the UAE. Looking ahead, he predicted that the UAE's non-oil sector will continue to grow alongside the country's oil sector.
In his welcome address, Diplomat Club president Javed Malik said that the club was established with an aim to provide a unique business diplomacy platform that connects diplomats, business leaders and government officials in an effort to explore opportunities of positive interaction.
