UAE's largest hospital to be operational in November

Abu Dhabi - The hospital will have four wings including the emergency and intensive care.

 With a total area of 300,000sqm, Sheikh Shakbout Medical City will begin welcoming patients in November this year, authorities have announced. The new 723-bed facility in Abu Dhabi, the largest in the country, is designed to provide world-class specialist care across a range of clinical practices.
The multi-speciality hospital, which began construction in 2011, will have two presidential suites and 36 VIP suites, an advanced wound treatment centre, 18 surgical rooms and a natural and premature birth department.
The first phase will be operational from November 3 with cardiology, neurological, ear, nose and throat, gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary and ophthalmology clinics. The second phase will be launched on November 17 and all departments at the hospital will be operational by January 9, 2020.
The hospital will have four wings including the emergency and intensive care, acute surgical, maternity and children and outpatient services. This is in addition to several specialised areas such as vascular surgery, chest and trauma treatment, pulmonology and orthopaedic and plastic surgery, as well as cardiac services and other high-tech medical services. The outpatient clinics will accommodate over 2,500 visitors daily.
Functioning under the Abu Dhabi Health Services (Seha), Shakhboot Medical City is equidistant from Abu Dhabi city, Al Ain and Dhafra area - around 50 minutes distance from all areas by car. Located near the Mafraq Hospital, it will have a medical research centre in addition to 132 beds dedicated to serve ICU and NICU referrals.
An advanced burn treatment will also be available at the facility, making it the only centre in the UAE with such advanced options. "It includes endocrinology, head and neck tumours, blood, bones, rheumatism and respiratory diseases as well as urology and nephrology, gastroenterology, and cardiovascular and other disciplines," Dr Ateq Ali Al Musaabi, chief of surgery and trauma and deputy chief medical officer of the Sheikh Shakhboot Medical City told Khaleej Times during a media tour on Thursday, September 26.
"The hospital is also equipped with the surgical robot which allows doctors to perform many types of complex procedures with precision, efficiency and speed."
Al Musaabi noted that the new facility will replace Mafraq Hospital and all patients will be transferred to the new hospital when it is fully operational by the beginning of next year.
