The ongoing renovation work on three Dubai Metro stations is now 40 per cent complete, the chief of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced.
Upgrades are being done on the Dubai Internet City, Damac Properties and UAE Exchange stations on the Red Line. These include amenities that make the Metro more accessible to pedestrians and cyclists, as well as features that provide safe and smooth mobility for people of determination.
The project is part of the RTA's master plan to improve a total of 40 Metro and marine transport stations by 2025, said Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA.
"The project works include the construction of an additional Western entrance at Dubai Internet City station and improving the link between Damac Properties station and Dubai Marina Tram station to cope with the growing number of riders, especially during the morning and evening peak hours," Al Tayer explained.
"An additional Eastern entrance will be built at UAE Exchange station to ease the arrival of riders. Civil works will also be made at the Eastern and Western sides of the stations' entrances to improve the integration of transit means and the accessibility of Metro stations."
There will be pedestrian crossings, shaded areas, and some landscaping, he added.
The RTA's 2025 master plan primarily aims to improve the link between the stations and their surrounding urban and tourist destinations.
"The selection of those stations was based on several criteria such as the number of riders, number of people of determination users, population density, geographical distribution in the surrounding areas, and the number of mobility journeys between transit means," added Al Tayer.
