Arrest warrants have been issued against three "famous social media personalities" in the UAE for taking part in a dance challenge that has gone viral on social media. As part of the 'Kiki dance challenge', people get out of moving cars and dance to Canadian rapper Drake's song In My Feeling.
The Abu Dhabi public prosecution said the warrants have been issued for endangering lives and "offending public morals". The authority warned that the illegal trend is punishable with imprisonment, fine or both.
The challenge went viral after Instagram user theshiggyshow posted a video of himself dancing to the song last month. Since then, thousands of Netizens, including celebrities, have taken part in the latest craze to hit the online space.
Police forces across the country have warned that taking part in the challenge can land residents in legal trouble.
A top police officer said a Dh2,000 fine and 23 black points will be slapped on motorists taking part in the dangerous trend.
Colonel Saeed Obaid bin Aran, director of traffic and patrols department at the Umm Al Quwain Police, said: "The vehicle involved in the grave traffic violation shall be impounded for 60 days."
The Dubai Police said the dance violated three traffic laws: Driving in a way that endangers the lives of others, causing traffic roadblocks or congestion, and using a mobile phone while driving.
Calling the trend a "serious traffic violation", a source at the Ras Al Khaimah Police said: "Residents should not do this Kiki dance - or any other dance on the road - whether they are the ones driving or not."
