A new beach project that features water sports and sand castle sculptures has been opened in Sharjah's Khor Fakkan. His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated the Dh95 million attraction on Sunday in the presence of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq).
The development features jogging and bicycle tracks; multi-use sports courts; a swimmers' beach with lifeguards; and a children's playing area. The attraction also features areas to showcase art installations and murals. New amenities have been added to the existing family beach park, including eco-friendly picnic and barbecue areas.
The recently-launched 89km Sharjah-Khor Fakkan highway - that cuts down travel time between the two cities to 45 minutes - will offer visitors direct access to the beach experience.
As he toured the facility, Sheikh Sultan witnessed a traditional boat race and an art gallery exhibition by renowned Emarati artist Mohamed Al Astad, whose passion is to promote Khor Fakkan's touristic values.
Featuring recreational and other activities across 1km on the south side of the Khor Fakkan beach, the new development is 20 minutes away from Fujairah, 30 minutes from Kalba and 45 minutes from Sharjah city.
