The Dubai Police are planning to team up with the consulates of India, Pakistan and the Philippines - the three largest expat communities in UAE - to launch a community awareness project which aims at conveying police messages through "qualified" volunteers to the masses to enhance their security and safety.
The plan to start the community project was mooted during a recent meeting between the department of security awareness in the public administration for the welfare of the community and the department of diplomatic and consular affairs at the criminal investigations, along with the representatives of the three consulates.
The discussions revolved around the novel project to promote awareness about criminal, traffic and social messages of the police department among the communities.
Batti Al Falasi, director of security awareness department, said the project would strengthen communication with the expat groups in Dubai by roping in volunteers from among these communities, who have the ability to spread awareness and communication with the public.
He added that the project will set future goals that the Dubai Police seek to achieve within its strategic plan to boost security, safety and community happiness, by enhancing communication with the communities, raising traffic, criminal and social awareness. "We will choose qualified volunteers, who have the ability to reach out to as many community members as possible in their own language."
Al Falasi said that under the project, joint initiatives with the communities would be rolled out. He pointed out that "qualified volunteers" will be encouraged to participate in various activities such as opinion polls, discussions and brainstorming sessions to chalk out future programmes.
He added that the project envisages to hold training courses for selected volunteers to prepare them for the voluntary programme and teach them how to disseminate information and spread awareness on social networking sites of particular communities and through the media as well as exhibitions targeting these groups.
