The 13th Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (Adihex) will be back from tomorrow at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. The exhibition which will see several hundred participants will be on till September 12.
While majority of the exhibitors are from the Arab region, there is an increased number of participation from the West, bringing to Adihex products as varied as steel, arts, weapons and hunting trips.
"We have many big companies from America, Europe and New Zealand participating in Adihex this year, which has become the biggest event in the Middle East specialised in falconry, equestrian sport, camel racing, hunting sports using firearms, open air sports, water sports, safaris, arts and antiques," said Abdullah Butti Al Qubaisi, director. From MP3 International, a UAE-based company established in 2004, trading in firearms with imports from Europe and US to Frankonia Handels a German company established in 1908, hunting weapons is what most of these western participants are bring to Adihex 2015. This year, the organiser of the exhibition, Emirates' Falconers Club with the support of Cultural Programmes and Heritage Festivals Committee-Abu Dhabi, has changed the rules on buying weapons at the exhibition.

August 26 was the deadline for registration and, according to the organisers, only UAE nationals aged 25 and above, who have obtained the clearance certificate of criminal record and a certificate of mastering the use of weapon issued to non-military individuals through clubs licensed for this purpose can purchase weapons. Altogether, there are 40 exhibitors in the special firearm section of Adihex, 15 of whom are from the UAE.
Most of these exhibitors are not new to Adihex, and among some of the returning weapon makers is Fausti, an Italian company that still crafts hand-engraved rifles and pistols. Cavalier Stefano Fausti began its work in 1948, when Stefano Fausti started assembling guns with the help of just a chisel and fine paper.
Nowadays, to create a Fausti rifle takes 90 stages of different machine work and anything between 300 and over 700 hours of engraving.
The "gun sisters" took over the company management after their father retired in the early 1990s.
The art gun manufacturer began its work in 1948, when Stefano Fausti started assembling guns with the help of just a chisel and fine paper.
Nowadays, to create a Fausti rifle takes 90 stages of different machine work and anything between 300 and over 700 hours of engraving.
"The beauty of a bespoke gun is expressed by the symmetry of the lines, attention to detail, and precision machining," said Barbara.
