Dubai Municipality will continue its interest in collecting documents which will help archive important events of the UAE in general and Dubai in particular, said Hussein Nasser Lootah, director-general of the municipality.
Over 20,000 documents have been collected and showcased in the historical documents centre, he added.
Lootah made these remarks as he inaugurated the historical documents centre, an affiliate of the urban heritage and antiquities department of the Dubai Municipality, in the presence of representatives of government departments and personalities who have contributed towards providing the historical documents about Dubai.
Lootah went around the nine-show halls including Al Maktoum Hall which houses documents pertaining to the Dubai Rulers.
The centre is designed to document the civilised achievements of the emirate through the ages. It also documents the accomplishments of Dubai on its cultural, economic and urban levels and its inter-emirates relationships.
The historical documents and manuscripts have been barcoded and bibliographically maintained for researchers.
