Two warehouses were partly destroyed and two storeys of an under-construction building were gutted in two fires that erupted in Dubai and Sharjah within 24 hours.
On Friday, at around 2pm, a fire partly damaged two warehouses located behind Dragon Mart, Dubai, The Dubai Civil Defence received information about the fire in the warehouses housing a recycling plant and materials, and fire brigades from Karama, Rashidiya, Al Ras and Port Saeed rushed to the site. The fire was put out within half an hour.
The Dubai Police forensic experts have cordoned off the area and are investigating into the cause. A spokesperson from the Dubai Civil Defence has said that on one has been injured.
The fire in the 22-storey under-construction building in Al Majaz area in Sharjah happened on Thursday evening. No casualties have been reported.
The Sharjah Civil Defence acted swiftly and prevented the fire from spreading to neighbouring buildings. Inhabitants of the neighbouring buildings were evacuated and cars were removed from the parking lots as a safety measure.
Colonel Majed Al Suwaidi, deputy director of Sharjah Civil Defence, said the fire erupted on the 22nd floor where there was a lot of waste and then spread to the 21st floor.
The operations room of the Sharjah Civil Defence received information at about 10pm on Thursday about the fire. Fire brigades from various stations managed to bring it under control within three hours, while cooling operations continued till the wee hours of Friday. The site has been cordoned off and handed over to the forensic and fire experts of Sharjah police for investigations.
