The forensic laboratory of the Sharjah Police have launched an intensified investigation into the fire on Wednesday night which damaged three apartments and a restaurant, as well as the front side of the building in Al Qasimiya area. The fire also caused injuries to four people who were treated at the site by the ambulance staff.

According to a police official, the fire which is considered to be of medium size, is believed to have originated from the fireplace of the restaurant which then spread to the three apartments damaging them partially.

The police received information at about 9.30pm and immediately firefighters were put in action. The fire was doused in less than 30 minutes. The police also evacuated the building for the safety of the tenants and cordoned off the area to facilitate firefighters. Forensic experts took over the site on Thursday morning for further investigation and to submit the report for the damage.

Sharjah fire destroys six warehouses

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Abdullah Al Suwaidi, Director-General of Sharjah Civil Defence, said the accident is not considered huge but it was dangerous since it occurred in a residential building.
He added that quick response from firefighters from various fire stations including Samnan and Muwailih helped in controlling the fire. He added that cooling operation were conducted twice to ensure that everything was safe.
He urged managements of restaurants and cafes located in residential buildings to ensure that all fire safety regulations are followed. The staff must be trained to use fire extinguishers and other fire protection equipment, he added.
