Dubai Civil Defence officials controlled the fire that broke out on the roof of Lamcy Plaza in Dubai on Friday.
An official from Dubai Civil Defence said that the fire started with the AC fans. He said that they received a call about the fire at 11:17am at the operation room. They immediately dispatched firefighters from various fire stations including Al Etihad, Al Karma and Port Saeed.
In several videos and photos sent to us by eye witnesses, tall plumes of smoke could be seen coming out from the roof of the mall.
The site has been visited by the newly appointed Dubai police chief Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri. He gave support to the fighters and police officers working on the site.
He confirmed that there are no casualties. He added that the fire spread quickly, as the mall contained flammble materials. Now the fire fighters are conducting cooling operation in order to let the fire experts determine the cause of the fire.
The whole building was evacuated to ensure the safety of the residents. The police officials cordoned off the area and roads were blocked as well. All the cars in the parking area of Lamcy Plaza were removed.
So far no causalities have been reported. More details are awaited.
