Kim Kardashian hasn't made it a secret that she loves Dubai. On a number of occasions from her Instagram to Keeping Up with the Kardashians the Queen of Social Media has professed love for our wonderful city.
We would have loved to say, for her first public appearance since the shocking robbery at gunpoint in Paris last October halted the Kardashian marketing machine for a few months, that she returned to the public eye with a vengeance and that Dubai was her stage. Unfortunately this wasn't the case.
"Such a fun day today! I felt so much love here in Dubai, thank you guys for coming out to Mario's Master Class!" is all Kim has tweeted so far about her Dubai trip along with feeling jetlagged and reminding us what feels like the hundredth time about the premiere of her sister Khloe's new reality TV show Revenge Body.
It's unlikely for anything Kardashian to be lukewarm, but her presence, despite the expected painfully manic hype of her fans, found that Kim wasn't at all what we or many of her fans expected. She was modest in her public appearances and apparently shy of the media.
We will be the first to admit that there is too much Kardashian in the media. However, when your brand is built on over exposing yourself and your family it's curious that you would take such a massive step back from the spotlight. Of course we completely understand that this is her first public appearance since that horrific robbery and that it is a brave first step for Kim.
But as we've reported before, the Kim machine has refused to do any media interviews with us or apparently any other publication in the UAE. This might have been because they were worried that the reality star would have been bombarded with questions about the robbery and the recent arrest of some of the suspects. Fair enough. However we are sure (from our experience anyway) that journalists and publications are capable, if agreed upon before hand, to sit down, with a celebrity such as Kim and ask her rudimentary questions about all the banal things people find interesting without ever bringing up her personal trauma or life (which her family have been very good at capitalising from anyway).
Instead, we were invited to follow her around Mall of the Emirates to photograph and video her every move while she walked around and sucked on a red lollypop.
For us, and for our readers, we believe it would have been more valuable and interesting coverage on the world's most famous reality stars to have a simple conversation with her about what new make up trend she's into. Initially media was invited for her appearance today at the Rashid Center where Kim is set to be visiting patients but the invite was then revoked. Photographers were invited to Mall of Emirates yesterday but upon arriving were told by management that "Kim would go crazy if she saw photographers here" and were forced to wait outside until after the reality star came into the mall. Only then were they allowed to enter the mall and follow her. OK then.
In any case if you're still hungry to know what Kim and sort of brother-in-law Scott Disick got up to while in Dubai here's what we know. Kim's make up masterclass held along with make-up artist Mario Dedivanovic saw hundreds of women who each paid up to Dh6,127 per ticket (ridiculous) queue up at MusicHall, Zabeel Saray, where they got to see Kim K's make- up beauty transformation and ask questions about make- up and nothing else.
As has been widely reported online, dressed in ripped jeans and a simple top, Kim walked on to the stage informing her fans: 'I'm so excited to be here, let's hope Mario does a good job.' While also mentioning that her 3-year-old daughter North is also massive fan of make up. "I own so many make-up brushes and just so much make-up, I love make-up, and now my daughter loves make-up, so she has her own set." We guess there's nothing like starting too young when you are a Kardashian.
