Shaikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman and chief executive officer of Emirates airline and group on Wednesday evening addressed a press conference on the emergency landing of an Emirates aircraft earlier today.
The plane -- EK 521 -- was flying in from Thiruvananthapuram when it caught fire upon landing at the Dubai International airport.
While paying tribute to the firefighter who lost his life battling fire, Shaikh Ahmed said that 13 people sustained minor injuries during the incident, and thanked the entire team that responded to the incident.
"We pay tribute to the firefighter who lost his life fighting the blaze. We thank all teams that dealt with the incident," he said.
He added that evacuation procedures were executed professionally and the cabin crew was the last to leave the plane. The flight pilot was a well experienced Emirati national with more than 7000 flight hour, he informed.
"Medical teams dealt with 13 persons with minor injuries, who left after a short time."
Shaikh Ahmed added that it was too early to comment on technical issues, and said he can't comment on whether the incident took place because of a problem with the landing gear. He also urged everyone to refrain from jumping to conclusions regarding conversations in the cockpit.
