A global social media campaign that aims to encourage people to work together to live sustainably has been launched as part of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2019.
Organised by Masdar, the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, ADSW's #WeAreCommitted campaign features a range of inspirational messages from ministers, ambassadors, business leaders, dignitaries, youth and communities from around the world, who all commit to living sustainable lives in different ways.
The #WeAreCommitted campaign encourages the public to also join in, inviting followers to share their sustainable commitments on social media along with the hashtags #WeAreCommited and #ADSW.
"Through advancing innovation and leveraging the latest technologies, the UAE has emerged as a model of global sustainability stewardship," said Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment.
Dr Sultan bin Ahmed Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State and Chairman of Masdar, said: "Sustainable development is one of the guiding principles set by the leadership of the UAE because of its important role in ensuring the continuity of economic growth and social wellbeing."
"As a prelude to launching the ADSW, we are pleased to support the global #WeAreCommitted campaign, which is in line with the objectives of UAE Vision 2021, including building a knowledge-based economy and ensuring a sustainable environment."
Shamma bint Suhail Faris Al Mazrui, Minister of State for Youth, said the UAE is committed to encouraging young generations to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives.
"The focus of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week on Youth and Future Skills is a pioneering step," she added.
