Weather: Cold snap to continue this week in UAE

Keep those warm clothes and cup of chai handy as the cold snap is expected to continue throughout the week, a forecaster at the National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) told Khaleej Times on Monday.
Until Thursday, the temperature will be mild during daytime, hovering between 18-24 degrees Centigrade and will drop to around 12-18 degrees at night in coastal areas. It will be slightly warmer in the mainland and internal areas at 20-25 degrees during the day and 7-12 degrees at night while it will be coldest in the mountains at 13-17 degrees when the sun is up and 4-10 degrees from dusk till dawn.

According to the NCM, there was a slight increase in the temperature after winds died down on Monday, following the coldest weekend so far this winter.
The lowest temperature recorded on Monday at 6.15am was 3.7 degrees in Raknah, near Al Ain. It was one degree higher than the lowest temperature on Sunday at 2.7 degrees at Jebel Jais, in Ras al Khaimah.

On Monday, the lowest temperature recorded at Jebel Jais, the UAE's tallest mountain, was 3.8 degrees, while at the world's tallest tower, the Burj Khalifa, mercury dropped to 14.2 degrees before sunrise.
It was cold in Umm Al Quwain at 10.8 degrees and the coldest inland temperature was 9.6 degrees at Al Faqa, a village near the UAE-Oman border.
Because of fresh northwesterly winds, Dubai felt like 17 degrees on Monday while the actual temperature was 19 degrees. In Abu Dhabi, it felt like 16 degrees although the actual temperature was 18 degrees .
"There is nothing unusual about the sudden drop in temperature in the last three days as this is typical in winter time," said the forecaster, adding: "the fresh northwesterly winds will continue until the weekend."
"There is no chance of rain but there is a probability of mist and fog formation on Wednesday and Thursday mornings so motorists are advised to take the necessary precautions," the forecaster added.
Residents are also advised to wear warm clothes. The relatively cold temperature is expected to last until the third week of March, according to NCM.
