A woman inmate at the central prison has been charged in the Court of First Instance with physically assaulting an on-duty policewoman and verbally abusing her.
The 23-year-old Emirati's attack on the police officer allegedly happened on December 26 last year, after the latter told her to put her clothes back on and step off a chair.
Court documents show the inmate had just taken her clothes off and was dancing on a chair when the policewoman grounded her.
She has also been charged with doing an indecent act in public. She had flashed her middle finger in the policewoman's face.
The inmate confessed she was dancing in the yard but claimed she had taken the approval of a police major.
"However, the complainant came to me and was shouting." She admitted she insulted the police officer and puller her hair and kicked her.
She said the officer also pulled her hair.
A policewoman, who witnessed the incident, said she was on duty at the prison when she saw one of the inmates -- the accused -- dancing almost naked on a chair.
"My colleague -- the complainant -- signalled to her from behind a glass façade to step off the chair. But that inmate gave her the middle finger. When that policewoman entered the yard the inmate took off all her clothes."
The witness added: "When the complainant told her to go to her cell to put on her clothes the accused verbally abused her. The policewoman told her to not insult her. As she was talking with a colleague, I saw the accused attacking her from behind. She pulled her hair and bit her in her left arm. We took her away from our colleague."
The forensic report showed the bruises on the complainant's left arm and right leg could have been caused by beating with hands and kicking.
Biting marks were also spotted on the police officer's arm.
