A gang of six women and a man have gone on trial accused of human trafficking and practicing prostitution.
The Abu Dhabi Criminal Criminal of First Instance heard that the defendants including Chinese and Thai nationals were arrested after police investigations suggested that they were engaged in prostitution activities.
Three of the women and a man were running the brothel, according to Police.
Prosecutors said the women and the man were bringing the women from their home countries, kept them in an apartment in the capital and then forced them to have sex with various men after paying them cash.
Official court documents stated that the gang had brought the women to the UAE on visit visas and they later made them sex workers.
Police investigations revealed that the group made the women to have sex with various men and some against their will after paying them money.
"Sometimes they could take the women to various apartments and forced them to have sex with different men after they had paid them money," said prosecutors.
On certain occasions, the women would pick the men from the streets and take them in the apartment for sex after they paid them cash.
The three women and the man denied charges of trafficking women and running the brothel.
The women accused of prostitution said in court that they were being forced into the illegal activity by the group who ran the brothel.
They told court that the women and the man had threatened to harm them and their families back home if they refused to have sex with the men.
The trial was adjourned until December.
