Ministry of Infrastructure Development has launched the first phase of a new road in Fujairah which will connect the UAE with the Sultanate of Oman.
The key road at a cost of Dh30 million links the Shaikh Khalifa road in Fujairah with the Corniche road and the Khatm Marine Centre that will help you reach Oman.
Dr Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, minister of infrastructure development, while checking the road development works on Tuesday, said the two-phase project is expected to be completed in the third quarter of next year.
"The 4.4km long road, worth 30 million, will consist of two lanes in each direction with a middle road island for future expansion and possible addition of a third lane in both directions."
A traffic signal will also be installed to ensure and control traffic flow, he added. "All the rainwater drainage networks, along with lighting network, and metal barriers will be carried out as well."
The project is aimed to connect the Corniche road No 99 with the Shaikh Khalifa road in Fujairah, Dr Belhaif said.
"The new road will better connect Dubai with the northern emirates and ensure traffic flow."
The new project will further decrease the load on the internal roads of the Kalba in Sharjah, he added.
"The trucks will be diverted to this new road when completed, and that will boost traffic safety and flow, let alone the economic benefits."
Earlier, the ministry has announced three new projects worth Dh498 million for the ministries of education, culture, and health in Dubai, Ajman, and Fujairah.
