Abu Dhabi - This is the first death after more than 27 million hours logged to date with an average of 5,500 workers on site.

The developer of a branch of the Louvre being built in Abu Dhabi said on Monday that one of the workers had died in the first such incident on the project.
In a statement to Khaleej Times, the Tourism Development and Investment Authority (TDIC) said: "TDIC regrets to confirm its first fatal incident on Louvre Abu Dhabi construction site back in June of this year. Since the unfortunate incident took place, the company's main focus has been the worker's family especially during this tough time."
"This is the first fatal incident on site and comes after more than 27 million hours logged to date with an average of 5,500 workers on site. The company is still working with its contractor and the relevant authorities to investigate how this unfortunate incident took place and to make sure that the necessary measures are taken accordingly," the statement added.
TDIC is constantly working to ensure that the highest standards of health and safety in the industry are implemented for all workers who are employed on the company's various projects, it said.
The Louvre is part of a cultural district in Abu Dhabi known as Saadiyat Island that includes a New York University satellite campus and which will host a branch of the Guggenheim.
