Workers flock to mass Iftar event

Free medical check-ups available at the tents for workers in Muhaisnah 2 and Hor Al Anz daily.

Dubai - The mass Iftar programmes continue to attract thousands of workers in Muhaisnah 2 and Hor Al Anz daily, spreading the spirit of sharing and togetherness in the holy month of Ramadan.
The Mass Iftar Tents, as part of the 14th Dubai Ramadan Forum and organised by the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing in Dubai, has drawn around 4,500 people cutting across nationalities so far.
Every year, the organising committee of the Dubai Ramadan Forum hosts mass Iftar events under the patronage of Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, chairman of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation.
The Iftar tent, which is located in Hor Al Anz area, can accommodate about 2,000 per day, while the second tent in the Muhaisnah area, adjacent to labour accommodations, can host up to 2,500 persons.
Meals are served in addition to water, juice and dates. Every day, before the Iftar, religious and educational lectures were held in different languages with a view to raise awareness among the audience about the meaning and significance of Ramadan.
Free medical checkups
Separately, for the fourth consecutive year, the Dubai Municipality (DM) is hosting the 'Health of the Fasting' programme, providing free medical checkups at the tents in Muhaisnah 2 and Hor Al Anz besides two new locations added this year.
Medical examinations for blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, ECG and hepatitis C are offered, and medicines are pro vided free of charge. For chronic diseases such as hepatitis C, the municipality partners with charities to provide free treatment.
A notable addition to the services provided this year is the dental health programme that is offered within the initiative launched by Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, to promote quality dental health care for workers in Dubai. The programme includes not only dental check-up and treatment, but also dental implants and fixtures, which cost exorbitant amounts of money.
The 'Health of the Fasting' programme targets low-income people, who represent a large segment of the society and who might not have the means to get appropriate treatment.
Malabar Gold and Diamonds, which allocates 10 per cent of its profits each year to charity and community work within its CSR initiatives, is participating this year as a main sponsor of the forum and is offering support to the Iftar tents.
The Dubai Police vehicles stationed outside the tents ensure smooth functioning of the event, in light of the overwhelming turnout at the tents. The police patrolling begins daily from 5pm until the last person leaves the tent.
