The Ras Al Khaimah Misdemeanour Court, Second Circuit, has ordered a young Arab to serve three months in jail for failing to pay the rent of a luxury car in Ras Al Khaimah.
Must know: You can now rent cars by the hour in Dubai!
As per court records, the accused rented the exotic SUV car from a car rental agency in Ras Al Khaimah city for two months.
He was supposed to pay Dh60,000 against the four-wheel-drive modern car, but he just left the car parked in front of the rent-a-car agency, and disappeared.
The manager of the agency lodged a complaint against the defendant with the Ras Al Khaimah police a month ago, in September this year.
"The suspect should have paid Dh60,000 against the two-month rent of the luxury car, but he left the car in front of the agency late at night with the keys in, and disappeared," he told the RAK police.
When contacted several times, the accused refused to pick up the phone of call later, he added. "We tried hard to contact him in so many ways, but he was unreachable."
The RAK police summoned the suspect who admitted to his felony, claiming that he did not have the rent. "I rented the exotic car for two months only for fun and for showing off when meeting others."
The accused was then referred to the Public Prosecution for legal action. He was then moved to the RAK Misdemeanour Court which found him guilty and sentenced him to three months in prison.
The mother of the suspect was satisfied with the verdict, however, wishing that the prison will discipline him. "Never imagine I will pay for your snobbish and boyish practices," she told him while he was in the dock.
