An exhibition of paintings done by students from 100 schools started at The Outlet Village, as part of the Zayed Painting Competition.
The competition, organised to mark the Year of Zayed, is aimed at educating students on the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and promote his values through the creative abilities of the UAE's young talent.
With school registration open from December 2017, more than 13,000 students in Grades 4 - 6 from 100 schools across the country took part in the competition.
In March, one winner from each school was selected whose artworks will be on display in an exhibition in Dubai for 6 days. The contest's exhibition segment commenced on Monday, with a launch event at The Outlet Village. Judges reviewed the 100 winning entries.
One of the young artists present during the launch programme was Maryam Saif Almuflehi, an 11-year-old from International Community School in Abu Dhabi. Quite excited about the exhibition and her participation in the event, Almuflehi said: "I was very happy to hear about this contest, and am the only one in my class who took part. I love painting and am glad that I could show Sheikh Zayed's vision through art - in the colours and expressions used."
The judges will select 10 finalists and three top artists as national-level winners, whose names will be announced at a grand award ceremony to be held on March 31. The finalists will receive gifts, and will have their artworks published in a book.
