With value-added tax (VAT) coming into effect, UAE residents ended up paying little more from their pockets at the start of the New Year.
The day began with a lot of stir as residents exchanged New Year greetings and screenshots of their first VAT bills on internet and WhatsApp.
The internet was flooded with quirky updates from residents about their experiences and expressed their feelings of paying VAT in New Year as #VATinUAE started trending on Twitter.
