The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) has forecasted that the latest decrease in temperature will continue throughout February. This is despite the relative increase in temperatures in the latter half of January.
According to a statement issued on Thursday, the met department said that the country will experience a low-pressure front coming in from the west, potentially resulting in unstable weather conditions. Southern winds are slated to stir up dust as cumulous clouds gather with a potential for rainstorms on the horizon.
According to the NCMS, "Rainfall usually occurs during the month of February because of all the low pressure areas moving in from the west that affects atmospheric stability." The highest amount of rainfall in February on record happened in 1988, registering nearly 317mm of rain.
Average maximum temperatures may range from 23 to 28°C, while average minimum temperatures may fall between 12.4 and 16.1°C.
The maximum temperature recorded in February of 2017 was 39.8°C in Hars in the westernmost region of the country.
Minimum temperature recorded in the same period was -5.7°C at the summit of Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah.
The country will be seeing a northwesterly wind which reach 13 kilometres per hour.
Relative humidity will vary throughout the night and early morning hours, averaging from 77 to 88 percent as a maximum reading and 29 to 40 as a minimum measurement. Fog is expected to form over diverse areas.
February is expected to witness high and low fog phenomena. In 2016, the highest rate of fog of all previous years was recorded, with 13 days registering thick - and seven days registering lesser - formations.
