UAE dust storm: Authority issues tips to stay safe

Dubai - Warnings were issued today for dust storms in most parts of the country.

Following the National Centre of Meteorology warnings regarding dust storms on Saturday, the Al Dhafrah Municipality took to Twitter to give tips on how residents can stay safe.

Motorists must take extra precautions while driving in the low visibility caused by the sandstorms. The municipality warned that visibility may decrease to less than 2000 metres on coastal, interior, and western areas and islands.

The municipality also warned of rough seas, with waves in the Arabian Gulf expected to be up to eight feet high.

The municipality advised the public to follow weather forecast announcements from official sources and avoid exposure to dust and dirt particles.

Those staying at home should ensure that all doors and windows are properly closed to prevent dust from entering buildings.

The municipality also urged the public to dial 993 to contact the Emergencies Office in the Municipality of Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra in the event of any emergency, such as sand gathering or falling trees.

The alert will stay in place from 4am to 7pm on Saturday.
