Parts of the UAE witnessed heavy fog early morning on Tuesday, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).

Abu Dhabi police sent out messages, warning motorists to slow down.

Speed reduction system was activated to 80 Km/h on Abu Dhabi - Dubai road.

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has requested motorists to follow safety guidelines and drive on the right side of their lane. Drivers should use the vehicle signals when necessary and always use fog lights.

Earlier, in a series of tweets, the NCM issued alerts that fog formation would affect horizontal visibility across the country. "The visibility will decrease further at times over some internal and coastal areas," the NCM warned in a tweet.

Parts of Abu Dhabi and Dubai witnessed fog early in the morning at 1am. Fog will continue till 9am, according to tweets by the NCM.

Visibility is being affected in various parts of Abu Dhabi, especially areas in Al Dhafra region and Al Ain. Patches of fog appeared over Abu Dhabi - Dubai Road, the NCM said.

The Abu Dhabi Police warned residents to adhere to safe driving during the fog.

“Drivers must adhere to safe driving during fog formation and check the weather condition before driving,” the police said in a tweet.

The police urged motorists to reduce speeds, leave an adequate safety distance and adhere to speed limits. The Abu Dhabi Police activated speed reduction system to 80 Kmph on various roads including Sweihan road (Abu Dhabi - Zayed Military City, Abu Dhabi - Al Ain road (Al Amerah - Rimah) and Sweihan - Al Ajban road.
