Residents living in the northern emirates and coastal areas are advised to take precaution and brace for intermittent and torrential rains beginning Saturday, November 9 until Tuesday, November 12, the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) said on Wednesday.
In its four-day forecast, the NCM said the UAE will experience scattered rains of varying degrees.
Showers will begin Saturday as clouds increase with a chance of scattered rain starting in the morning over the islands and gradually approaching the coastal and the northern parts of the country in the afternoon.
"The country is affected by an extension of surface low pressure that leads to flow of moist warm air mass from the south. This weather condition is accompanied with an upper trough of low pressure from the north and the northeast, leading to formation of rainy clouds over scattered areas, associated with lightning and thunder at times with fresh gusty winds," an NCM spokesperson explained.
Rains will intensify by Sunday and Monday as downpours of varying degrees will be be associated with thunder and lightning at times over different parts, resulting in flash floods in the northern emirates.
By Tuesday, clouds with gradually decrease with a chance of rain over the western coasts and east of the country during the day.
Meanwhile, participants and supporters of Sheikh Zayed Road Run will enjoy fine weather on Friday as Dubai is set to make history as part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge.
The latest inclement weather forecast comes after the UAE's east coast has been spared from the brunt of Tropical Cyclone Maha and more than a week after Cyclone Kyarr caused flash floods in low-lying areas in Sharjah and Fujairah.
A hotel worker in Dibba Fujairah drowned after he was caught in the high waves caused by Cyclone Kyarr a couple of weeks ago while authorities had to evacuate 20 families after an overnight storm caused flooding in Sharjah's Kalba city. Schools were also closed and roads had to be shut temporarily due to the flooding.
The NCM advised everyone to take precaution at all times, especially while driving during rainfall as there will be reduced horizontal visibility and blowing dust and sand.
"It is advised to stay away from valleys and areas of flash floods. It is also advised to not go to the sea as it is rough in the Arabian Gulf and in Oman Sea from time to time," the NCM underlined.
