UAE residents had a wet start to the week on Sunday morning as thunderstorms lashed the country overnight. A number of minor accidents were reported across the country, causing hours-long traffic tailbacks.
Municipality officials swung into action early on Sunday to clear water-clogged streets and roads.
The police deployed additional patrols to control traffic flow.
Valleys in Ras Al Khaimah were reportedly flooded and the tallest mountain in the UAE, Jabal Jais, witnessed heavy rain.
"Splendid and scenic falls of water can be seen from a distance at the Jais Mountain," said Sulaiman Al Mahi, a Sudanese resident.
According to the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology, the weather on Sunday and Monday will be partially cloudy over the country in general, with rainfall over scattered areas, thundery at times, especially northwards.
Fresh northwesterly winds will prevail during the day in general, becoming strong over the sea. Sea is rough to very rough in the Arabian Gulf, and moderate to rough in the Oman Sea.
More rain-laden clouds on islands, coasts and western areas, and moderate to heavy showers - which might be thunder rains - are expected.
Brigadier Ghanim Ahmed Ghanim, director-general of central operations, RAK Police, said the road leading to the Jais mountain has been partially blocked.
