2015 saw an extraordinary rise in the popularity of adult colouring books. Which is perfectly understandable - not only are these colouring books a great way to remember your childhood pastimes, they're super fun and creative, and therapists claim that they're a great way to de-stress. But for those times where you can't exactly pull out a book and start colouring, or are simply looking for an alternative to test it out before you buy the real thing, these apps are sure to tickle your fancy.

Colorfly
One of the best colouring apps for adults out in the market today, Colorfy has positioned itself as a stress-buster by providing you with patterns that you can fill in any way you like. The free version comes in with a number of floral and animal illustrations, famous painting and mandalas, but if you want more designs, you'll have to pay up. You can also create your own colour combinations and share your finished work of art on Instagram. If you think simply tapping to paint a section is child's play, you're in for quite a surprise with this app.
Coloring for Grown Ups
A fun app for adults, Coloring for Grown ups stands out from the rest by providing what feels like an activity book for adults to complete. There are loads of puzzles, mazes, and of course, hilarious illustrations that aim to underline the many difficulties of adulthood. So colour them all in, and once you're done, you'll be dying to show them to all your friends. Which is why it's probably a good thing this app also comes with a sharing feature for facebook, twitter and other social media platforms.
Recolor
Recolor offers your more or less the same concept as Colorfy, and has loads of interesting illustrations for you to choose from. You can pick from animal, plant, insect, even isometric patterns before choosing a colour palette. Recolor also offers you a chance to make your picture different by applying a filter over it. So choose between shadow, watercolour, pencil or crayon to give your artwork a more 'real' look and you're all set to save it or share it with friends. However, be warned, the ads tend to get rather annoying.
Disney Color and Play
This one is technically for younger ones (as you may have guessed form the name) but there's no reason you can't unleash you inner child. You have the option to colour your favourite Diney characters with an enless combination of tools, patterns and stickers. Once you're done with your masterpiece, there's a 'magic wand' tool that turns your creations into fully animated 3-D characters. It's just plain fun.
