A weekly round-up of stuff that’s made life better, prettier, tastier, inspired, entertaining… A few of my favourite things
GIVE ME RED Always, always been a BIG fan of CH. This red-bow flap bag — an apt Valentine’s Day gift that I spotted at a shop window — is bound to set any woman’s heart aflutter (so what if it sets you back considerably in the financial department?). Unsure if I will gift it to myself, but living in hope. |
AN ACE UP MY SLEEVE Today, February 14, is a special day for me. It’s when Season 2 of House of Cards releases on Netflix: all episodes together. I recently finished watching Season 1, and it’s easily one of the top five series I’ve watched on the idiot box. Ever. Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright, as the politically scheming Underwoods, could give the Macbeths (both Lord and Lady) a complex. |
CHARMED ora has brought back charms into my life. It’s a simple, and linear, theory: buy a bracelet, and keep adding charms — and every one of them stands for something that adds a new dimension. For this time of the year — since love is in the air — it’s a whole lot of Cupid’s emoticons that rule the roost. |
CHINESE CRAVINGS Hot on the heels of the Chinese New Year late last month, Mazina@Dubai Address Marina organised a fitting Friday brunch. Dim sums, Oriental salads, meats ‘n’ sauces, craved curries and stir-fries, and decadent desserts. Particularly nice since we snagged a seat on the balcony, mellow sun et al. |
NAILING IT There are times when I binge on nail polishes — and I have quite a collection at home to tag a QED. Aussie brand piCture pOlish (that’s right, that’s how it shows up on the brand-face) is my latest fetish: a range of frightfully quirky colours, together with equally quirky names (atomic, heavy metal, candy, aphrodisiac etc). In Dubai these days; available exclusively at Bloomingdale’s. |
GRABBING EYEBALLS (FOR THE RIGHT REASONS) JAY LENOClaim to fame: Possibly, the world’s most followed talk show host — at least, until he retired last week. Leno’s swansong The Tonight Show… With Jay Leno, on February 6, was graced by a taped goodbye message — from the US Prez, no less. Barack Obama offered to make Leno an ambassador to Antarctica — why that was funny beats me. But Leno was in sparkling form himself: “Justin Bieber wasn’t even born yet [talking about his early days]… That’s why we call them ‘the good old days’.” |
