What book(s) are you reading at the moment?
I am currently reading A Sudden Light by Garth Stein, Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari, and have just finished The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. All excellent reads.
What are the books that changed your life and shaped your outlook?
Buddha's Brain: The Practical Neuroscience of Happiness, Love and Wisdom by Rick Hanson. It's a reconciliation of sorts between science and Buddhism, and how science has shown that our thoughts really can change our brain.
Most memorable literary character (and why)?
I don't think I could choose just one - that's like asking someone who their favourite child is!
Name one book that you think is underrated?
I love Alias Hook by Lisa Jensen, which tells the story of Peter Pan, but through the eyes of Captain Hook. In her retelling, Hook is not the villainous pirate he was made out to be, but a witty, well-educated man who is cursed to be Pan's plaything for all of eternity - with no possibility of death, no matter how much he wishes for it. I love books that tell us the other side of a famous story.
Your favourite book quote.
"Your car goes where your eyes go." This is a quote from The Art of Racing in the Rain, also a book by Garth Stein. While this might be said in the context of racing cars, I think it also applies to life, and how you need to focus on where you want to go in order to get there.
