How do you typically start your day?
My workday starts at 8.30am at the office, where I first check my emails and go through the brand's social media accounts. We have recently set up individual accounts for fishfayce weddings and fishfayce kids so I look through them to ensure any queries, comments and questions have been addressed. Once I've caught up with emails, I do a quick catch-up with my team to see what the week looks like and help them out with scheduling, planning and brainstorming ideas.
Describe your work in brief.
My work is fun, challenging and creative. Every day is a different day and we are lucky to work with some of the best international and local brands.
What is your favorite thing about your job?
I love that I have long standing relationships with my clients and many of them have transformed into cherished friendships over the years. Since every event is different, it gives us the chance to put on our thinking caps and get our creative juices flowing.
What advice would you give your younger self, if you could?
Stay positive, take risks and take a leap of faith for yourself from time-to-time.
What has been your most challenging experience to date and how did you resolve it?
Being extremely hands on, not delegating and attempting to manage everything has been truly challenging. I started the business by myself and for the longest time did things on my own. With time, though, I overcame that and hired a strong team and began delegating where necessary.
How do you usually maintain a work:life balance?
My life is organised chaos at best. I spend the mornings with my kids, getting them ready for the day and then dropping them off to school before heading to work. Once I pick them up, the rest of the afternoon is spent with them. I usually finish work after I put the kids to bed in the evening.
Any advice for youngsters just getting into the professional arena?
If you see yourself in a creative work space, you need to ensure professionalism is at the top of the learning heap. A good work ethic is essential, as well as the ability to grasp information. Observance is key as little details go a long, long way in our field of business.
A fictional character you think would make for a good role model - and why?
Anne Hathaway's character in The Intern. She was very inspiring to me. As an entrepreneur, she was able to work out every challenge thrown at her - all the while managing her home, her child and a thriving business which isn't the easiest thing to do. But she did always find a way to make it work in her favour.
What is your greatest dream, professionally?
To scale the business on an international level and have fishfayce offices spread out globally in all major cities in the world.
