How do you typically start your workday?
My three young boys are my 6am wakeup call and once the school run is complete (around 7.30am), I start my day with a good breakfast which allows me to set and affirm my goals for the day. I map out the game plan and am all set to go. After all, breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
Describe your work in a sentence.
Making the world's premium luxury goods accessible to a global audience.
What is your favourite thing about your job?
Everything about it. When you love what you do, you never work a day in your life. In my line of business, we are very involved with our clients' needs and constantly learning about the things they need from our platform, what type of service they require and ensuring they get that luxury service. We are constantly developing our technology to be innovative and ensuring we have that human touch.
What has been your most challenging experience to date and how did you resolve it?
Being a mother of three and running a million-dollar business has its challenges but, in turn, it never feels like work. I have the best team who I wouldn't be able to do this without. The biggest challenge is always ensuring the children are happy as I believe life starts at home.
In business, I believe there are no challenges but lessons. When you are running your own business, you are constantly learning. You learn from the challenges and use them to become better. Everyone has room for improvement.
Any advice for your younger self?
I believe all the things I experienced whilst I was young have taught me all the things I know today.
How do you maintain a work:life balance?
I maintain a good work:life balance by ensuring I make time for travel. It is one of the best things a person can do, as they get to learn about other cultures and people. It allows you to identify trends and network with other people in the same field of business. Dubai is the perfect hub for you to travel and see the world.
Any advice for youngsters just getting into the professional arena?
Think big. No goal is big enough. And don't get drawn too much into titles as this limits you. Broaden your skill set and think outside the box.
A fictional character you think will make for a good role model - and why?
I would be the fictional character Sooraya Qadir who calls herself 'Turaab' which is Arabic for 'dust' and is part of the new X-Men comic series. Sooraya chooses to wear her traditional Arabic clothing out of modesty. She refuses to change her belief and faith to fit in with her peers. She is the perfect role model because her message is clear: 'Change the game. Don't let the game change you'. It is important never to forget your core values.
What is your greatest dream, professionally?
For Luxury Promise to be a leading sustainable luxury marketplace in the world. I believe it can empower the younger generation to be smart and savvy buyers.
