At the end of this Eid weekend, schools will start, work schedules will pick up pace and summer will probably come to an end. So, how does one celebrate the last stretch of summer? Well, this season, summer fashion was easy - be it the Greek sandals or breezy kaftans, the boho style was going strong. One of the great things about living in Dubai is that we can wear these summer styles for the next couple of months. However, if there was another trend that made its presence felt, it was the circle bag. It was the accessory that spelt Summer 2018 (though the shape has been around since Spring 2017). Given that the circle cross-body bag also features in many Fall/Winter 2018 collections, it may well be your final summer purchase.
Be it Chanel or Zara, sphere-like bags can see you from day to evening, depending on their size and styling. It's a shape unlike any other, and yet so practical, especially when you wear it as a cross-body or tote. Its curves make sure the bag falls on the body with ease, though it can accommodate fewer things as compared to a standard rectangular bag. Meghan Markle was one of the first celebrities who drew attention to this trend when she wore a Chloe "Pixie" suede shoulder bag at Sandringham last year during Christmas. Since it has handles, you can use the Chloe bag in many ways - Meghan chose to carry it as a small tote.
Like any handbag, you need to choose the one that is in keeping with your style and suits the occasion. The humble purse has become an accessory that most women choose to make a fashion statement with. Since the circle bag is so graphic, so distinct and so out-of-the-box, it's not a trend that is likely to last very long. So, my advice would be not to invest in one that has a heavy price tag, but one that has a softer look and works better as a cross-body or a beach tote. And since we live in a city that has some lovely beaches, it becomes a perfect weekend bag (I found a great one at Topshop, so do check out your favourite high street brand - it'll have its own take on the circle bag).
When you do get your circle bag, remember it makes for a great picture because it's quirky and playful. Perhaps this is why so many fashionistas love this bag: it's Insta-friendly. and in today's day and age, that matters!
