The Gujarat government has admitted that as many as 844,000 kids in the state are underweight and lack nutrition.
According to figures tabled in the state legislative assembly, of these 62,500 children are severely underweight as on December 32, 2013, with Vadodara having the highest number — 65,800 — who are underweight. While Vadodara district also has an additional 5,900 children who are severely underweight, the tribal district of Dahod in central Gujarat as well as the state’s most urbanised district of Ahmedabad have the second and third highest number of underweight children, respectively.
