A new game is spreading across the region and the world; months after the 'Blue Whale' game pushed children worldwide to hurt themselves.
Momo - the name of the new game, shows the titular character with a grotesque face, scary face and an evil grin. The game is spreading over WhatsApp and many have been victimised by it.
"I know everything about you," this is what the character says when she messages victims.
A medical expert quoted in said that her appearance and way of talking and might cause children to suffer from nightmares or have negative thoughts; the latter may lead to self-harm.
Many social media users have posted videos of them playing the game. Some fear that it may lead to terrible consequences, just like the Blue Whale game.
The game begins with Momo sending images that contain violence to the victim. The game will then threaten its recipient if they refuse to follow the game's 'orders'.
According to regional websites, Momo will reply in any language, but the number that is used for the messages is from Japan.
Jamal Farwiz, a Consultant Psychiatrist from Egypt called on parents to monitor their children's activities online. He said that playing the game might lead to psychiatric disorders. Their cognitive abilities could easily be affected as well.
