Arrest of 22 top Pakistani leaders over graft imminent

The sources said that most of those against whom charges have been prepared belong to the previous PPP government, adding that the prime minister was also informed about the possible arrest of former president, two former prime ministers, among others.

Islamabad: Top officials of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif here on Sunday and took him into confidence regarding the planned arrest of 22 important figures of the country, including leading politicians, who are allegedly involved in corruption scandals.
As per media reports, FIA officials presented details about the involvement of influential figures in corruption cases before the prime minister and took him into confidence regarding initiating legal proceedings against them.
There is a strong possibility that these important political personalities would be arrested in coming days.
The sources said that most of those against whom charges have been prepared belong to the previous PPP government, adding that the prime minister was also informed about the possible arrest of former president, two former prime ministers, three chairmen of Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR), former information and education ministers of Sindh as well as dozens of bureaucrats.
