Pact signed for The sleeping Tree

Minister of State for Information Affairs Sameera Rajab and Managing Partner of Nooran Pictures Fareed Ramadan signed last week a production agreement for the development of Bahraini feature film, The Sleeping Tree.

Directed by Mohammed Rashed Buali, The Sleeping Tree revolves around a family’s sense of tragedy, reflecting on the links between Bahraini heritage and cultural beliefs and activities. The film sheds light on human fallibilities within a society’s cultural norms by examining a family’s relationships and the strain brought upon husband and wife through the illness of their daughter.

With filming planned to begin by the end of the year, the Information Affairs Authority (IAA) will be co-producers of the film, alongside its creators, Nooran Pictures.

Set within the environs of a contemporary Bahraini home, the film reveals the tensions within a family broken by their daughter’s illness.

Yet, just when the parents lose all hope, a series of coincidences leading to the local landmark, the “Tree of Life,” rebuild the couple’s faith in life. The poignant story tells another universal reality at the same time that truths are unchanging and the family must accept the realities of life.

Bahrain-based Pakistani 
appointed Opac member

Former vice-chairman of Pakistan Club, Mohammed Afzal Bhatti, has been appointed by the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis as a member of Overseas Pakistanis Advisory Council (Opac) in recognition of his meritorious services rendered for the welfare of overseas Pakistanis.

The Opac was constituted in August 2001 to achieve the objectives of welfare of Pakistani expatriates and ensure their participation in the national development.

Fifteen prominent overseas Pakistanis have been selected from around the world to be the members of OPAC which includes Afzal Bhatti.

Renovation of Al Hedaya Al Khalifiya School discussed

Culture Minister Shaikha Mai bin Mohammed Al Khalifa has discussed with the Undersecretary for Resources and Services at the Education Ministry Shaikh Hesham bin Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, a project to renovate Al Hedaya Al Khalifiya School, where public education was officially launched for the first time in 1919.

Shaikha Mai praised the project as a means to document a key phase of the kingdom’s history, expressing desire to include the Khadija Al Kubra School in the project because it was the first venue where girls’ education started in the country in 1928.

A charity scheme to make children smile during Eid

Maqaba Charity Fund continues to bring smiles to the needy children through its annual charity project “Make a Child Happy” as it has been doing for the last 15 years.

Organised in every Ramadan, the fund collects new clothes and toys for the needy children across the country.

Chairman of the Fund, Ali Hassan Al Zaki, said that through the campaign, tonnes of new clothes and toys are collected and then donated to the children during Eid. The fund, in co-operation with various organisations, places boxes at various locations around the Kingdom. He said that once these boxes are filled, items are collected and sorted.

After a final evaluation, the fund starts distributing toys and clothes to those who they see deserving children.
