Child car seat safety awareness campaign in Bahrain

The Ministry of Social Development has launched a public awareness campaign for the proper use of child car seat safety in cooperation with a number of relevant authorities.

The campaign aims to educate the community members and parents about the importance of car seats for children and infants in order to ensure maximum protection for them on the roads.

Minister of Social Development Dr Fatima Mohammed Al Balushi said that the campaign comes as part of the ministry’s constant efforts regarding children’s protection and the implementation of the child law, as well as the implementation of the National Children Strategy plan which was launched in September 2013.

Lectures on the topic have been arranged at a number of social centres, nurseries, kindergartens, primary schools and health centres.

Correct and incorrect seat positions have been explained through posters. For the purpose, the ministery has launched an extensive media campaign to reach the largest segment of citizens.

Fifteen school clubs are set to open on August 3 across Bahrain as part of a rich and activity-packed summer educational and entertainment programme.

“The recreational scheme will benefit government primary students in addition to private school students”, Education Minister Dr Majid bin Ali Al Nuaimi said at a Ramadan majlis.

The education ministry operated thirteen school clubs last year for intermediate students, who benefited from lessons in Arabic, math, science, English and French, in addition to a variety of activities which included carpentry, ceramics, sports, computer, painting, handicraft and voluntary work.

The entertainment programme also featured voluntary work, environment-related activities, competitions, festivals, electronic and robotics training courses.

Book on Arab architecture development

To mark its participation for the third time in a row in the 14th international architecture exhibition held in Venice, the Ministry of Culture has issued a book titled “Selections of Arab architectural development 1914 — 2014”.

The book highlights the architectural developments in the Arab region during the past 100 years. The culture ministry’s fascinating book carries seven various studies and articles that provide a historical overview of the Arab region’s urbanisation in line with the region’s geographical structure, including Iraq, Arabian Peninsula, Egypt, the Levant, North Africa and other Arab countries in Africa.

Vintage car centennial to be celebrated

Preparations are in full swing to celebrate the centennial of the first car that hit the streets in Bahrain in 1914.

Late Shaikh Abdulla bin Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa imported the vintage car from India by sea century ago.

The General Directorate of Traffic has chalked out a programme to celebrate the event.

Car fuel used to be imported from abroad as petrol had not been discovered in Bahrain”, General Directorate of Traffic Media Advisor Abdulaziz Mohammed Bouhajji said.

Manama Municipalities, which was then in charge of organising the movement of cars then, issued the first law on traffic as part of the law on municipalities. Ten policemen based in the station adjacent to Manama Suq were tasked to monitor the traffic movement. The number of cars totaled 26 in 1926, that’s twelve years after the first vintage car entered Bahrain in 191.
