Kerala's opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF) disrupted the proceedings in the state assembly on Thursday demanding a re-investigation into the bar bribery scam.
The opposition members stormed into the well of the house after their notice for an adjournment motion on the issue was turned down by Speaker N Sakthan. As they squatted in the well and started shouting slogans, the chair rushed through the day's business and adjourned the house. The protests came in the wake of the final report submitted by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) giving a clean chit to finance minister KM Mani, who was accused of receiving a bribe of Rs10 million.
Leader of opposition V S Achuthanandan alleged that the case was torpedoed by chief minister Oommen Chandy. He pointed out that both the investigation team head and Home and Vigilance Minister Ramesh Chennithala had alleged pressure on them to save Mani.
