Under the directive of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Dubai Parks and Resorts will extend its support to the proposed development of a Six Flags theme park in Saudi Arabia. The directive calls for an exception to the destination's GCC exclusivity clause with American theme park operator, Six Flags, to benefit tourism and entertainment in the wider GCC region. The exception will apply to Saudi Arabia, and underscore the UAE's support of the Saudi Vision 2030.
This mandate is aligned with Shaikh Mohammed's vision of open and free movement of knowledge and expertise among Arab economies.
The plan to launch Six Flags in Saudi Arabia is part of the Saudi Vision 2030, which envisions a diversified local economy, the addition of jobs for a growing population, and creation of more cultural and entertainment showcases in the Kingdom.
Raed Al Nuaimi, CEO of Dubai Parks and Resorts said: "We are proud to support and contribute to the growth of the theme park industry in the Middle East. At Dubai Parks and Resorts, we have a wealth of experience and skill in our operations and execution teams and we will be honoured to play a role in the regional growth of the industry by sharing our knowledge and expertise across the GCC."
Dubai Parks and Resorts approved plans earlier this year to build Six Flags Dubai, which is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2019. - Wam
