An Emirates aircraft struck another carrier while on a runway in the Nigerian capital of Lagos on Tuesday causing minor damage, the airline has said in a statement.
"Emirates can confirm that flight EK782 from Lagos to Dubai on 6th July made minor contact with the aircraft of another carrier while taxiing," the statement says.
The airline added that all passengers and crew members safely disembarked from the aircraft and were transferred back to the terminal.
"Passengers were provided overnight hotel accommodation and were flown to Dubai on other Emirates services on 7th July," the statement added.
According to Nigerian media reports, the other aircraft belonged to Hak Air, a Nigerian carrier which flies domestic routes inside the country.
Images uploaded to social media show no visible damage to the Emirates aircraft. The Hak Air aircraft, however, is shown to have a substantial gash to its tail.
The Guardian, a Nigerian newspaper, reports that a team of investigators from the country's Accident Investigation Bureau has been deployed to look into the incident.
Another Nigerian newspaper, the Daily Times, quotes a source as saying that the incident may have occurred because the international runway - known as 18Left - had safety issues at the time and was improperly lit.
