The airport authorities said that fog blanketed Lahore and its suburbs, forcing the closure of runway due to low visibility.

The national and international flights to and from Lahore were diverted to other cities of the country while many flights were cancelled.

Severe cold weather also gripped capital Islamabad with dense fog causing problems for travellers.

It also prompted the Motorway police to suspend traffic on (M2) Lahore-Islamabad to zero in large swathes of the region.

Hilly areas including Murree and northern parts of the country had heavy snowfall.

Weather pundits predicted that most Punjab cities would remain engulfed by fog during night hours for at least next one week.
