The lifting of sanctions on Iran may increase exports of German machineries to the Middle East, said a top executive of the Germany Engineering Federation or VDMA.
Saudi Arabia is the biggest market in the region but it has been witnessing flat growth in exports for the last two years, VDMA's Alexander Koldau said.
Koldau said SteelFab is a good platform to showcase German technologies. Twenty companies participated in SteelFab this year under the country's pavilion.
Most German companies target small workshops while some seek oil rig-related companies, he informed. They offer machine tools and vacuum cleaners for the steel industry.
"The German machinery industry has been staying flat for the last four years and we don't expect a big change this year." Exports to Middle Eastern countries recorded around one per cent growth during the first nine months of 2015, he informed.
"We see big demand from Iran but they are dealing with Chinese manufacturers. We are afraid people may expect German quality at Chinese prices."
