The simmering tussle between Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president V M Sudheeran and the party-led United Democratic Front (UDF) government has worsened on Friday with the former coming out openly against the transfer of two key officials.
Sudheeran opposed the transfer of Tomin Thachankary and Jacob Thomas from the posts of Consumerfed managing director and Fire and Rescue force chief respectively, saying that it was against the decision taken jointly by the party and the government in the wake of Aruvikkara by-election victory not to do anything that would create unnecessary controversy.
The transfers of the two senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers did kick of a big controversy with Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led opposition Left Democratic Front alleging corruption behind them. Sudheeran believes that the opposition would use it as major ammunition against the ruling front in the ensuing local body elections.
Sudheeran expressed his displeasure over the transfers while talking to reporters here before his departure to New Delhi for attending the farmers' rally being organised by the AICC there on Sunday. He is expected to take up this as well as the organised attack against him by the two dominant factions in the party with the party high command.
Sources close to Sudheeran said that he has sought the appointment of party president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi to discuss the matter. Deepak Babria, AICC secretary in-charge of Kerala, has asked Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala to be present in Delhi for discussions.
