In a shockingly tragic incident, a groom and his grandmother were killed while the man's wife seriously injured after a gift parcel the couple had received on their wedding reception exploded as it was opened, local media reports. It happened five days after the marriage ceremony in Odisha's Bolangir district.
Police said that they are trying to find out who gave the gift to the couple and the type of explosives used in the package, which was brought home after the ceremonies were over. A dog squad and forensic team are conducting the investigation at the victim's house where the explosion took place, a report in the Financial Express said.
The elderly woman was killed on the spot. The groom was shifted to a hospital in Rourkela. However, he died of his burns. The man's wife - badly injured in the explosion - is undergoing treatment at a government hospital in Burla. She is in a critical state.
The police have collected evidence and a probe is underway.
