The nearly 500-year-old Chateau de Chambord in France's Loire Valley took on water this week as heavy rainfall led to flooding across central France. Video footage shot on Thursday evening (June 2) by the Domaine National de Chambord shows floodwater encroaching on the castle walls, and even pooling up in the courtyard of the UNESCO world heritage site. Torrential rain forced thousands of people from their homes south of Paris while the River Seine surged to its highest level for over 30 years in the French capital, shutting down the famed Louvre and Orsay museums and a metro line.
