Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday called on Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Sardar Raza Khan, demanding deployment of army for the upcoming by-polls.
PTI leaders Jehangir Tarin and Asad Umar were accompanying Imran at the meeting during which the PTI chief said he was assured by the CEC that shortcomings committed in the last general election would not be repeated in the future.
Talking to the media after the meeting, Imran said he was pleased to learn that the chief election commissioner has initiated action over the shortcomings and lapses of the electoral body in the light of judicial commission's report.
He announced that his party would hold a protest against the Election Commission of Pakistan on October 4, reiterating his demand that all the four members of the ECP must resign as they had lost moral ground after the judicial commission's report.
Imran said he also requested the chief election commissioner to let the judges of election tribunals work as long as they were hearing pending cases.
The PTI chairman said the government is trying to influence the upcoming local government elections and by-polls through development funds. The CEC asked Imran to review his decision of holding protest against the ECP.
